Definitely other factors are also important such as hard-work, talent etc. But we can’t ignore the fact that money plays an important role in fulfilling one’s dream.

How is frugal living helping me to achieve my dreams in my life?

I’ve set my career goal a few years ago. And then I was thinking about money. I asked myself “how to fund my dream?”. Then I got the answer “Join a job, earn and save money”. So finally I joined a clerk job. I used to save 80% of my monthly salary. I was not spending any money on unnecessary things. My mind was very clear about my savings goals.

Do you know how it was easy for me to save more money? Do you think I was getting a huge salary with high perks? Absolutely not. I was earning very little, but still, I used to save more money. Let me explain you with an example. If you want to gift your friends or relatives,  you don’t need to buy costly gifts for them. You can use your own creativity and make handmade, personalized gifts by using a craft kit. This will not only help to save money but it increases the bonding. It also helps you to be more creative.

4. Being frugal helps to boost self-control

With my personal experience, I can tell that frugality helps to have self-control. When it comes to money I can say that I’m living an organized life by having self-control. This is helping me to use my money wisely.

I think twice before purchasing anything. I’ve seen many people purchase any random products like clothes or phone or anything then they regret.

While purchasing anything, first I make sure that it’s my ‘need’  but not ‘greed’. So frugal living helping me to avoid impulse buying. I don’t get distracted by what’s trending in the market. This is how you can also have self-control by adapting a thrifty living.

5. Frugal living kick out financial stress from your life

Do you know even if you earn  1,00,000 INR per month you will get stressed if you don’t have control over your spending habit. The frugal living will reduce your big stress. You lead a peaceful, stress-free life by adapting frugality.

I’ve seen some people who were earning more than I was earning from my job. But in the end, they could not save a single penny. This wrong cash flow will increase financial stress in one’s life. You are wise enough to ask ‘is frugal living worth it?’. So be proud of yourself if you are adapting frugality in your life and saving money.

6. Frugality teaches you to balance your emotion

After graduation, my friend got a job. Then one day I met her and asked about her savings. And she told that she did not save a single penny. She spent all the money to fulfil her younger brother’s demand. She told that she could not say ‘no’ to her lovely brother.

Well, here I realized that emotion is also a great factor that influences one’s spending habits. But a sensible person knows how to say ‘no’ and how to handle emotions. Frugal living helps to have control over emotions. I’m not saying that in one day you will be very strong emotionally. But the more you change your mindset by adapting frugality, gradually you will have control over your emotions.

7. Financial freedom is possible only when you are frugal

I personally feel that frugal living is the first step towards financial freedom. Unless you start to live frugally you can’t save more money. So all this is interconnected. First, you should adapt frugality in life to save money, then you will reach financial freedom in the very near future.

Financial freedom means you are doing any job and paying your all the bills today. But tomorrow if you leave your job then also you are having enough money to live your life without any financial freedom. This state can be reached soon if one adapts frugality in life.

8. Frugality keeps your mind and house unclutter

Imagine you are preparing for an interview and when you open your cupboard you get confused about attire. You have a lot of options in front of you. You are focusing more on your attire rather than preparing your answers for questions for your interview. Do you feel peaceful at this time? No, right?

Actually frugal living helps you to make your life, mind and house unclutter. When you spend your money and fill your house and cupboard with more things, it looks clutter. When you live in a clutter environment your mind will also get clutter. So always keep things simple. By adapting to frugality your life will be very uncluttered. Your mind will be very clear about your choices.

9. Frugal living teaches the value of everything

I’ve read the powerful line somewhere, the actual meaning of that line was – nowadays youngsters know the price of everything but do not know the value of anything. It seems like a bitter truth. But in my life frugal living teaching me the value of everything.

Frugal living helping me to avoid wasting things. For example- in your teenage or 20s you can spend more money on clothes and show off. Have you realized the value of those clothes or just know the price? But have you realized how your parents earned those pennies? So this is how you should know the value of everything. Frugal living helps you to understand the value of things.

10. Thrifty living improves wisdom and knowledge

As I’m adapting frugality, I’ve realized that my knowledge about finance is improving rapidly. So if you ask me- ‘is frugal living worth it’ then I say ‘yes’ without any doubt. Day-by-day I’m implementing new things to be frugal. This is helping to boost my wisdom. So I suggest young people to adapt to frugality. I say- start today.

You don’t need to join any financial classes or courses to learn financial management as a boring theory! Implement simple and practical steps in your daily life to be frugal. This will surely help you to improve your financial knowledge.

11. You will learn to enjoy real life

Are you still thinking is frugal living worth it and you can enjoy life by being frugal? well, I would like to share an experience here. Once I was about to use public transportation (which I usually prefer). But my relative said ‘why do you use public transportation, you can you any private transportation’.

Then my thoughts were running like “why should I waste money, and by using public transportation I can feel the real world. I can see different people, different behaviors”.

So I feel this is how one should enjoy one’s life. Explore every small moment in your life without spending more money. This is the real enjoyment:) I say- even if you have a lot of money and afford private transportation then also use public transportation more. Learn to be happy with little things. You will grow well in your life not only financially but also overall.

12. A disciplined life is possible by being thrifty

Discipline plays an important role in one’s life. Now you may think discipline is so boring. Well, I’m not talking about that boring discipline here! First, know the real essence of discipline. In reality, one can’t improve the lifestyle without being disciplined. And frugal living helps to maintain that discipline in life. In my life, I don’t go shopping frequently, don’t eat outside food with friends regularly.

These are all simple things but will benefit you in the long run. I say- plan your shopping, hang out, entertainment. Don’t just go with your friends regularly and plunk down your money.  And this planning is part of frugality which makes you disciplined.

13. Being frugal is overall good for the environment and planet

No doubt that frugal living is not only good for you but it is also good for this planet. You won’t waste any resources once you start to adapt to frugality in your life. You will give importance to each little thing and don’t waste anything. For example, assume that now you’ve a habit of buying more clothes. Fugal living makes you realize that you should value the resources, many people in this world are not even having enough money to fulfil basic needs.

So your mindset will change. You will be more sensible by adapting frugality. You will understand and prioritize what is good for you as well as for this planet. When frugal living is good for overall this planet then frugal living is worth it.

14. Frugality helps to handle peer pressure

As I try to define my saving goals, this helps me to handle peer pressure. According to me, defining the saving goal is also part of frugal living. For me also it was not easy to save 80% of monthly income from my regular job.

Usually, when a young girl gets a job and starts to earn money the first this which hits her mind is “shopping”. And even friends also influence to spend more money. But if your saving goals are very clear and you start to adapt frugality you can handle this peer pressure smoothly.
